I have been meaning to write but keep letting it slide. Today is a good day to update as we just had our eye appointment! Great news!!!! No glasses yet! He is slightly nearsighted with a very low prescription at this time. The Pediatric Ophthalmologist said this just means he will more than likely have a big prescription when he gets older, just like his mom!
Xander turned two almost a month ago now. He has been bouncing between 20 and 21 lbs lately with some illnesses (ear infections, colds and tonsillitis) but otherwise doing great! We had ECSE come for a visit a few days after his birthday and they were so impressed with his speech! He communicates very well and 3-4 word sentances are typical. We will have one more visit to check on sensory and speech in June and then dismissed from services because he is doing so well. ECSE Graduation coming soon!
I don’t know what I am going to do with myself with appointments now only scheduled one in June (ECSE), one in July/August (NICU Follow-up) and weight check with the pediatrician in OCTOBER!!!! The eye doctor doesn’t want to see us for a whole year!!!! (Sorry for the extra punctuation but I’m super, extremely, very excited!) Hopefully I can build up PTO at work again for sick time or even maybe, dare I say, a vacation!?!?
This is such a fun age right now, Xander is so curious and taking in his surroundings constantly. If he doesn’t know what something is called he will point and ask “This?” so we will tell him. He was hiding in his cupboard the other day and it started us playing hide ‘n seek. Dad hid behind the curtain in Xander’s room and it was fun to help him look and see his face light up when he recognized dad’s toes at the bottom of the curtain. When mommy was hiding in the closet and he couldn’t find me he called out “Mama, wheya-yoo?” It is such a precious memory for me, a simple afternoon playing hide ‘n seek.
As far as cognitive skills he is smart as a whip! I don’t know if we are just biased because we’re his parents but we are often blown away by things he says and does. We have been singing him “Rock-a-bye Baby” like most people do with their kids and he will even sing it to himself while rocking the chair back and forth on his own. “Rock-a-bye baby…. treetop….winow….rock.” But the other night he stopped Cory and said: Baby fall down? Cory: Yes. Xander: Bonk? Cory: Yep. Not sure how much he will like for us to sing that song anymore. He is a stinker sometimes and “falls down” so someone will notice and pick him up to comfort him. If you don’t happen to notice he might say in a distressed voice “oh no, fall down!” To make sure you know what happened.
His favorite things are still kitties and puppies, Bubble Guppies and going outside. He does also like coloring, trains, tractors, dump trucks (kind of new), SuperWhy, Princess Sophia, Jake the Pirate and Mikey Mouse. He loves pushing any and all buttons and gets excited when it’s time to do laundry because he gets to go downstairs. He will go up and down the stairs 10 times and still want to do it again. Some of his chores involve pushing buttons like on the microwave to warm up his food, on the dishwasher to start it and the button that starts the dryer. He tends to sing mostly in the car, songs like Jingle Bells, Happy Birthday, and the Wheels on the Bus.
We are so proud of our growing up boy!
